Emma Palermaa and Sanna Oksanen gave Finland its first gold medal of the 2026 European Women’s Championships on Monday in Odense, Denmark.
The Finnish pair won the doubles title after defeating Sweden’s Josefin Hermansson and Victoria Johansson 399-369 in the final. For Oksanen, it was already her second medal of the championship after winning silver in singles on Saturday.
The road to gold started with six games of qualifying, where only the top four teams advanced to the medal matches. Germany’s Maxine Bolek and Franziska Czech finished at the top of the standings and faced No. 4 seed Palermaa and Oksanen.
The match stayed close, but Palermaa and Oksanen did enough in the final frames to win 375-356 and reach the gold medal match.
In the other semifinal, Sweden’s Hermansson and Johansson faced another Finland’s duo - Essi Pakarinen and Peppi Konsteri. The Swedish pair took control early and never gave it away, winning 451-383 to advance to the final.
