After yesterday's competition in Singles, the Doubles event taken place today at the European Youth Championships in Berlin, with the first squads completed in both Boys' and Girls' divisions.
After one squad in the Girls' division Sweden has taken early control of the standings. Sweden's duet, Singles champion Saga Johansson and silver medalist Elissa Mehmet, leads the field with a total of 2,579 pins. Another Sweden's pair, Lova Nilsson and Elin Bergqvist, sits just behind in second place with 2,570.
Germany, featuring Laura Nisch and Lea Hassforth, holds third position with 2,468, while Finland's Salla Hautala and Neea Pöllänen currently occupies the final semifinal spot in fourth with 2,417.
England is just outside the top four in fifth place with 2,415, followed by another Finland's double in sixth with 2,391. Norway shares seventh with Czech Republic with both at 2,332. Denmark holds ninth place with 2,278, while Estonia rounds out the top 10 with 2,237.
In the Boys' division, Ukraine, represented by Andrii Gadiatskyi and Viktor Miroshnychenko, leads the standings with 2,756.
Norway, with Tian Solum Vallestad and Mathias Danielsen Otting, is second with 2,699, followed by Germany's Phil Baumeister Valentin Nahodyl in third with 2,610. France's Raphael Durivault Timéo Dujardin holds fourth place with 2,598, currently securing the final semifinal position.
Italy is just outside also with 2,598 total, but in fifth place just because of the lower score in the last game. Croatia sits sixth with 2,528. Czech Republic is seventh with 2,493, followed by Belgium in eighth with 2,457. Greece and Malta complete the top 10, both sitting on 2,435.
With only part of the field having completed their games, the standings remain open in both divisions.
Another two squads in both the boys and girls divisions will be bowled tomorrow, after which the Doubles competition will move into the semifinals and finals to decide the medalists.
