The first squad of the Mixed Doubles event has been completed at the 2025 European Championship of Champions, currently taking place at Plus Bowling Center in Vienna, Austria. After eight games, Türkiye’s duo Tuna Böncü and Gülhanım Birinci have taken the top spot with a combined total of 3571 and a team average of 223.2.

Böncü contributed 1878 with a strong 234.8 average, while Birinci added 1693 for 211.6. Their consistent performance across all eight games placed them ahead of the Romanian pair Mate Balazs-Becsi and Ana Maria Piticariu, who finished second with 3403 and an average of 212.7. Latvia’s Rihards Kovalenko and Liana Ponomarenko currently sit in third with 3292, averaging 205.8.

The top five teams are rounded out by Greece (3282) and Malta (3276), followed by Israel, Italy, Iceland, Cyprus, and Ukraine completing the top ten.

A highlight of today’s first squad came from France’s Gaëtan Mouveroux, who rolled the first 300 game of the 2025 European Championship of Champions. Mouveroux scored 247, 233, 300, 266, 245, 237, 245, and 222 for a total of 1995 and a 249.4 average in his eight games.

In the Singles standings, Mouveroux’s performance also propelled him to the top of the men’s leaderboard with a combined total of 3838 over 16 games, ahead of Nicolai Mallia of Malta (3697), Tuna Böncü of Türkiye (3693), and Mate Balazs-Becsi of Romania (3540). On the women’s side, Franziska Czech of Germany currently leads with 3168, followed by Alexandra Giannadaki of Greece (3104), Kaisa Ly Lee of Estonia (3103), and Gülhanım Birinci of Türkiye (3100).

However, these standings only reflect results after the first Mixed Doubles squad, and the picture is expected to change as more players, including yesterday’s leaders Teodor Samuelsson and Laura Beuthner, are yet to bowl their squad.

The second Mixed Doubles squad will be played later today, after which the top three teams based on total pinfall will be awarded medals.
