The men’s competition is underway at the 2025 European Championship of Champions in Vienna, and Sweden’s Teodor Samuelsson has taken a commanding early lead after the first block of eight games at Plus Bowling Center.
Samuelsson delivered a dominant performance, scoring 2022 with a remarkable 252.8 average, posting games of 233, 266, 237, 236, 257, 279, 257, and 257. His consistent pace and strong finishes in the later games allowed him to move ahead of France’s Maxime Dubois, who finished second with 1945 and a 243.1 average. Lukas Jelinek of the Czech Republic followed in third with 1915 and a 239.4 average.
Croatia’s Vedran Barunčić sits in fourth with 1881, while Paul Purps of Germany rounds out the top five at 1869. Sixth place belongs to Gaetan Mouveroux of France with 1843, followed by Nicolai Mallia of Malta and Simon Jaros of Slovakia, who are tied for seventh at 1831. Tuna Böncü of Türkiye is ninth with 1815, and Anders Tausø Christensen of Denmark completes the top ten with 1805.
This first men’s block was played on the official 42-foot oil pattern (2.98:1 ratio, 27.4 mL of oil), which has already proven to be on high scoring pace.
The men will return to the lanes on Friday, October 24, for their second block of qualifying, while Thursday will also feature the Mixed Doubles competition.
Following qualifying, the top 12 bowlers in each division will advance to
Final Step 1 for eight additional games, with scores carried forward. The top
four will then proceed to head-to-head semifinals (1 vs 4 and 2 vs 3). Winners
will meet in a best-of-three match to decide the 2025 European Championship of
Champions titles.
