The event was scheduled to take place from August 3 to August 9, 2026, at Dream-Bowl Palace in Munich, Germany.
It was set to feature a €400,000 prize fund and bring one of the most recognized amateur bowling formats from the United States to Europe.

Its format, built around handicap divisions, allows players of different skill levels to compete on equal terms. The European edition aimed to replicate that model and attract a wide international field.

Tournament organizers noted that several key factors led to the cancellation.
According to the official statement sent by the TAT President/Director Jamie McWilliams, Germany’s 19% VAT on entry fees created financial pressure on the event structure. In addition, current regulations would result in a 100% import tax on bowling equipment brought into Europe, increasing costs significantly for participants.
Organizers also cited rising global travel costs, including airfare and
accommodation, which would make participation difficult for many players.
Below is the full official statement from TAT President/Director Jamie McWilliams:
Dear Participants, Partners, and Supporters,
We regret to inform you that the 2026 TAT European Challenge, scheduled for August 3–9, 2026 in Munich, Germany, has been officially cancelled.
Over the past several months, we have worked extensively to bring this event to life at the level of quality and value that our players and partners expect. However, several unforeseen and unavoidable factors have made it impossible to proceed as planned.
First, Germany’s 19% VAT tax applied to all tournament entry fees significantly impacts the overall cost structure of the event, creating financial challenges that would ultimately make the event very expensive for everyone involved and affect player value and payout integrity. In addition, current regulations result in a 100% import tax on bowling equipment brought into Europe, increasing the cost of bowling balls by over $200 to the customer.
Finally, ongoing global conflicts have driven travel costs considerably higher than originally projected. Airfare, accommodations, and logistics expenses have all increased to a point where participation would be financially prohibitive for a large portion of our community.
Our priority has always been to deliver a fair, accessible, and high-quality experience for amateur bowlers, and under these current conditions we believe we are unable to accomplish that.
We sincerely appreciate the enthusiasm, support, and interest shown by all of you. We remain committed to exploring future international opportunities under more favorable conditions and will continue to deliver premier events through True Amateur Tournaments.
If you have already registered or made arrangements, our team will be reaching out directly with next steps and support.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
