James Blomgren has announced that he is stepping down from the Swedish National Bowling Team.
The 37-year-old brings his national team career to an end after the conclusion of the 2025 IBF World Championships in Hong Kong. During his final appearance for Sweden Blomgren added gold in trios and all-event, together with silver in team event.
Blomgren returned to Swedish National Team in 2021 after several years of absence. Since then, he became a central figure in Sweden’s international success.
At the 2021 IBF World Championships in Dubai, he won gold in singles and added three bronze medals in doubles, trios, and mixed event.
His success continued at the European Bowling Championships in Helsinki in
2022, where he won gold in doubles together with Jesper Svensson and added two
bronze medals in trios and team event.
One year later in
Wittelsheim, France, Blomgren won gold in all-event with a new European record
over 24 games (5752 pins) and later helped Sweden secure gold in trios
and teams.
James Blomgren first represented Sweden internationally at the 2006 European Youth Bowling Championships. He made his senior World Championships debut in 2013.
The decision to step away from the national team was influenced by personal priorities. Comenting on his decision with the Swedish media, Blomgren has spoken openly about the challenges of balancing championships with family life and the desire to spend more time at home.
Blomgren will continue to compete at club level in Sweden with his team Team
Alingsås, who currently lead the
Swedish Elitserien.
