The first Oil Pattern for the 2026 U.S. Open has been announced.
The United States Bowling Congress confirmed the Oil Pattern that will be used for the opening eight-game qualifying block on Tuesday. The pattern measures 40 feet in length with a 1.84 to 1 ratio and a total volume of 31 ml.

Qualifying begins Tuesday and continues through Thursday. Players will bowl 24 games of qualifying across three different Oil Pattern conditions before the first cut is made.
After 24 games, the field will be reduced to 36 players. On Friday, those remaining competitors will bowl another eight-game block. Following that round, the field will drop again to 24 players for round-robin match play.
From there, total pinfall across 56 games will determine the five players who advance to the stepladder finals. The finals will air Sunday on The CW.
The tournament field was finalized after the pre-tournament qualifier, where
Jeffery Mann led the 108-player PTQ field to secure his spot in the main
event.
Today bowlers will have an official practice on all four
patterns.
