Sweden has officially selected its team for the 2025 European Men's Bowling Championships, set to take place in Aalborg, Denmark, from June 6-14.
Head coach Robert Andersson has assembled a mix of experienced players and newcomers as Sweden aims to repeat its success from the 2023 European Championships in France, where the team won six medals, including three golds. Three returning players—Pontus Andersson, Markus Jansson, and Martin Larsen—were part of that successful squad and will compete again in Aalborg.
Larsen has won multiple international titles, including two World Championships golds and five European Championships golds. Jansson and Andersson also bring extensive experience, with Andersson recently securing victories at the AIK International Tournament and the PBA Sweden competition in Jönköping, while Jansson remains one of the leading players for Team Pergamon BC. William Svensson, who last represented Sweden at the 2022 European Championships in Helsinki, will also rejoin the team.
Two players will make their European Men's Championships debuts: Robin Ilhammar and Teodor Samuelsson.
Ilhammar has a strong track record in youth competitions and won silver in the Swedish Elite Championships in February. Samuelsson, the reigning Swedish Elite Champion, finished second at the 2024 Storm Lucky Larsen Masters. His ability to perform well in tough conditions could be a key asset in the championships.
However, Sweden will compete without James Blomgren and Jesper Svensson, who have played a major role in the national team’s past successes. Both players are preparing to represent Sweden at the IBF World Cup in Hong Kong this November.
Before heading to Aalborg, the team will participate in the European Tour competition in Kegel Aalborg International 2025 from May 23-25. This event will serve as preparation, allowing players to familiarize themselves with the conditions at Lövvang Bowling Center.
The 2025 European Men's Bowling Championships will feature six competition categories: Singles, Doubles, 3-a-side, 5-a-side, All Event, and Masters. The tournament kicks off on June 6.
