South Korea’s Seo Yeon Ryu has been named the 2026 PWBA Rookie of the Year, completing a historic first season on the Professional Women’s Bowling Association Tour.

The award completes a journey that began in April, when Ryu became the first South Korean player to compete on the PWBA Tour. She earned her place in the opening event through the pre-tournament qualifier and quickly established herself among the tour’s leading players.

Ryu arrived in the United States with extensive international experience. The former South Korean national team member won five World Championships gold medals and six Asian Games gold medals during her career, including four titles at the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou.

Through the PWBA Pepsi Open, Ryu had recorded five cashes, four top-12 finishes and four match-play appearances. She also earned $20,770 and ranked 14th on the overall season points list.

Her season included a fifth-place finish at the PWBA Barbara Chrisman Classic, where she became the first South Korean bowler to reach a PWBA championship round. Ryu also qualified among the 24 players competing in the season-ending PWBA Tour Championship.
