The qualification stage of the Italy Senior Open 2025 has officially wrapped up at Mondial Bowling in Rome, following 20 competitive squads spread across several intense days. With 149 senior bowlers competing, the top 34 men and 12 women have now secured their spots in the final stages of this highly anticipated tournament.

Masetti Shines in the Men’s Division

Italy’s L. Masetti delivered the top performance in the men's qualification round, scoring a total of 1,570 with handicap in Squad 7. His games of 236, 225, 226, 230, 213, and 279 were enough to edge out strong performances from other top contenders. Masetti will move directly into Final Step 3, joined by fellow top-four qualifiers S. Flynn of JK, and Italians C. Ajola and M. Celli.

The rest of the men’s field will continue through a structured series of elimination rounds. Players ranked 11 through 34 will begin with a four-game block in Final Step 1, from which the top ten will advance. Those ten will then be joined by players ranked 5 to 10 for another four games in Final Step 2. The top eight from that round will move forward to face the top four qualifiers in Final Step 3. After another four-game block, twelve players will remain, split into two groups. The top two from each group will then reach the semifinals.

Perniaux Leads the Women’s Field

In the women’s division, V. Perniaux of Belgium led the way with a total score of 1,313 during Squad 13. Her consistent series included games of 218, 205, 217, 209, 202, and 226. Just two pins behind her, fellow Belgian L. Vintens posted 1,311, while Italy’s M. Matrullo (1,304) and V. Vissenberg (1,297) rounded out the top contenders.

All 12 women will now be divided into two groups for a five-game Round Robin series. The top two players from each group will earn a place in the semifinals.

A Demanding Oil Pattern

This year’s 42-foot oil pattern proved both challenging and fair, featuring a total oil volume of 26.8 ml and a 1:7.06 ratio. It created an environment where smart adjustments and solid execution were crucial — a true test of experience and consistency that rewarded shotmakers who stayed sharp throughout.

Hosted at the modern Mondial Bowling center, players and fans alike have enjoyed world-class conditions. The venue features 18 QubicaAMF lanes, Kegel Specto tracking, Lanetalk integration, live scoring, and full YouTube livestreams on all lanes. Combined with smooth organization and authentic Italian meals served during the week, it’s no surprise this tournament continues to grow in popularity.
