The IBF World Cup 2026 starts on October 12 at Max Munich Bowling in Brunnthal, just outside Munich. Over ten days, 296 bowlers from 48 federations will play for four world titles: men's singles, women's singles, men's team and women's team.
The World Cup is the International Bowling Federation's championship for national teams of four. It was first played in 2022 on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, and the second edition was held in Hong Kong in January 2025. Munich is the first time the event comes to Europe. Germany is the host nation, and QubicaAMF is the presenting partner.
The Field
The entry list published on September 29 has 48 federations in the men's division, each with four bowlers, for 192 men in total. The women's division has 26 federations and 104 bowlers. Every country with a women's team also sends men, while 22 federations come with men only.
The field has grown since the August bulletin, which listed 44 federations and 176 men. The women's numbers are unchanged.
Most of the big bowling nations will be there with full teams of eight, including the United States, Malaysia, China, Singapore, Sweden, Denmark, Australia and the host, Germany.
How the format works
The World Cup is played in two parts: singles first, then teams.
Singles. Every bowler starts in a round-robin pool and plays head-to-head matches against the others in that pool. The men are split into 16 pools and the top two from each pool advance. The women play in eight pools and the top four advance. That gives a bracket of 32 in each division. From the round of 32 to the final, every match is best of three games.
Team. The four bowlers from each country play together in baker format, where the team shares one game and the players take turns frame by frame. Teams first play round-robin matches in groups, each match best of three games. The top four men's teams in each group and the top eight women's teams in each group reach the round of 16. From there, matches are best of five games.
Shot clock. Bowlers have 30 seconds for each shot. Running out of time is penalised, and repeated offences can cost a player the whole frame.
Conditions. The event is played on 30 lanes with QubicaAMF EDGE String pinsetters. The oil pattern is 44 feet long with 29.2 mL of oil and a 2.09:1 ratio. Read our full breakdown of the World Cup oil pattern.
