The third day of the 56th Brunswick Ballmaster Open concluded on Sunday at Tali Bowling Hall, with squads 5 and 6 adding more strong scores to an already competitive qualification leaderboard.
Two more squads with more than 80 entries took to the demanding Brunswick Ballmaster Open oil pattern, and the day produced the first perfect game of the tournament, as Finland’s Pyry Puharinen rolled a 300 during squad 5.
Squad 5 Delivers First Perfect Game
Squad 5 was highlighted by Pyry Puharinen’s outstanding performance.
The Finnish player topped the squad with a total of 1404 over six games,
becoming the second player in the tournament to break the 1400 mark. His
series included the tournament’s first 300 game, which came in his second
game.
By entering the 300eXtra competition beforehand, Pyry also locked in a €2,000 prize cheque - and a chance to bowl for an additional €3,000 in the post-finals roll-off next Sunday (if more than player will score a perfect game).
Justin Bohn finished second in the squad with a total of 1343, followed by Miikka Vaarala on 1279. Topi Haapaniemi placed fourth with 1274, while Lauri Kivioja rounded out the top five on 1254. The rest of the top ten included Leo Lähde, Kert Truus, Marek Tammsoo, Sebastian Susiluoto, and Jukka Mäkelä.
Squad 6 Sees Koivuniemi Take Control
Squad 6 delivered the highest score of the day and one of the strongest performances of the tournament so far.
Fourteen-time PBA Tour title holder, including three major wins, Mika Koivuniemi led the squad with an impressive 1415 total, built on consistent scoring across all six games.
Joonas Jähi followed in second place with 1343, while Kert Truus continued his solid qualification with 1336 for third. Petteri Salonen finished close behind on 1332. Sanna Oksanen placed fifth with 1323, while Miikka Vaarala, Jenni Heino, Reija Lunden, Topi Haapaniemi, and Lauri Kivioja completed the top ten.
Despite strong performances across both squads, Joonas Jehkinen remains the overall leader after six squads.
