Brandon Bonta leads the PBA Tournament of Champions qualifying at AMF Riviera Lanes in Fairlawn, Ohio, with only six games remaining before the field is cut to the top 24.
The 23-year-old PBA Players Championship winner added another strong block on Wednesday evening and now sits atop the standings with a total of 2,893 pins over 12 games.
PBA Roth/Holman Doubles champion Zach Wilkins remains in second place with 2,849 (237 average). Tim Foy Jr. holds third with 2,815, while Kris Prather is fourth with 2,804. Mitch Hupé completes the top five with 2,778.
Hupé had a strong opening block and led the field after six games, but a few lower games in the second round dropped him a couple of positions in the standings.
BJ Moore currently sits in sixth place with 2,765, followed by Chris Via in seventh with 2,752. Darren Tang is eighth with 2,739, while Brett Lloyd holds ninth with 2,726.
Finland’s Santtu Tahvanainen rounds out the top 10 with 2,716.
Michael Davidson, who led the PTQ on Tuesday, holds the last qualifying spot with 2,641 total. Full qualification results can be found here.
According to Nolan Hughes from PBA.com, the defending champion Jesper Svensson had to withdraw from the competition after the first six games due to illness. CW Network color analyst Kyle Sherman also pulled out of the event.
The final six-game round will start at 11 a.m. ET, after which the field will be cut to the top 24 players advancing to round-robin match play. The first round of match play will be bowled later in the day.
The top five players after 42 total games will advance to the stepladder finals, set to air live Sunday on The CW.
