What looked like a clear path for the top seeds going into the Round of 16 has quickly turned into a completely different story at the PBA Roth/Holman Doubles Championship.
After two more rounds of match play, the field has been cut down to just four teams who will meet in the semifinals on Sunday.
In the semifinals, set to air on Sunday, April 19 at 4 p.m. ET on The CW, Eric Jones and Deo Benard will face Sean Lavery-Spahr and Anthony Lavery-Spahr, while Zach Wilkins and AJ Chapman will meet Santtu Tahvanainen and Ethan Fiore.
None of them have previously won this event, and for five of the eight remaining players, a win on Sunday would also mean their first PBA Tour title.
Jones and Benard enter the finals as the highest remaining seed (8). Benard owns the only PBA Tour title between the pair, but both bowlers have TV round experience, as Jones finished third at the 2026 USBC Masters. Their run to the finals included wins over Cam Crowe and Nate Stubler (4-3), Alec Keplinger and Michael Davidson (4-0), and top seeds EJ Tackett and Marshall Kent (4-2).
Meanwhile, their opponents in the semifinals, the Lavery-Spahr twins, are each looking for their first career PBA Tour title.
The brothers defeated Bill O’Neill and Graham Fach (4-0), Mitch Hupé and Packy Hanrahan (4-2), and Nate Garcia and Julian Salinas (4-2) to reach Sunday’s championship round.
On the other side of the bracket, Santtu Tahvanainen and Ethan Fiore form the only team in the finals where both players have already won a PBA Tour title. Tahvanainen won the PBA Owen’s Illinois Classic last season, while Fiore captured the 2025 PBA Players Championship a month later.
Their path to the finals was tough, as they defeated Chris Via and Darren Tang (4-2), then 2026 USBC Masters champion Boog Krol and Keven Williams (4-2), and two-time PBA Roth/Holman Doubles champions Jesper Svensson and Kyle Troup (4-2) in the Round of 8.
Zach Wilkins and AJ Chapman complete the stepladder lineup, and both are also seeking their first PBA Tour titles.
They spoiled Kevin McCune’s birthday plans by overcoming a 3-2 deficit against him and Tim Foy Jr. to win the Round of 8 match 4-3.
Earlier, Wilkins and Chapman defeated Spencer Robarge and Jake Peters (4-2), as well as CJ Petrin and Alex Horton (4-0).
The stepladder finals are set for Sunday, April 19 at 4 p.m. ET on The CW. The winners of each semifinal will advance to a Race-to-Two championship match to decide the Doubles champions.
