Jason Belmonte has announced that he will not compete in the upcoming PBA Pete Weber Missouri Classic.
The 41-year-old two-handed legend, who has 31 career PBA Tour titles, shared the news on Facebook, citing personal reasons for his decision to return home to Australia.
“I won’t be at the next PBA Tour event in Springfield, Missouri. Would have loved to bowl in the Pete Weber Missouri Classic, but I have decided to fly home,” Belmonte wrote. “Had a great call with Pete to let him know and wished him a successful event! I’ll be back on Tour soon!”
The Pete Weber Missouri Classic begins today with the Pre-Tournament Qualifier. Tomorrow, competition moves to the 18-game qualifying round on the 45-foot Dick Weber oil pattern. The top 24 will advance to match play, leading up to the stepladder finals on Sunday, Feb. 16, live on FS1 at 1 p.m. ET.
This season, Belmonte finished 37th at the PBA Delaware Classic, 10th at the U.S. Open presented by Go Bowling!, and 6th at the PBA Owens Illinois Classic.
