EJ Tackett showed why he's one of the best in the game by winning not one, but two events during the PBA All-Star Weekend 2025 at Foxx View Lanes in Waukesha, Wisconsin.
The weekend brought exciting bowling action, including a high-stakes team match between one-handed and two-handed bowlers, and the always thrilling Strike Derby. It also made history as the first televised PBA event using certified string pinspotters, a new technology from QubicaAMF.
One-Handers Take the Win
Tackett led a strong team of one-handed bowlers—Andrew Anderson, Jakob Butturff, Graham Fach, and Kris Prather—to a convincing win over a two-handed squad captained by Jason Belmonte.
The match was a best-of-five Baker format, where each player bowls two frames per game. Tackett’s team quickly jumped to a 2-0 lead. Although Belmonte’s team fought back to win Game 3, the one-handers sealed the deal in Game 4.
Final Scores:
Game 1: One-Handers 216, Two-Handers 182
Game 2: One-Handers 269, Two-Handers 181
Game 3: Two-Handers 257, One-Handers 193
Game 4: One-Handers 213, Two-Handers 127
Tackett Wins His First Strike Derby Title
On Sunday, Tackett added another trophy to his collection by winning the PBA Strike Derby, a fast-paced event where players had two minutes to throw as many strikes as possible across three lanes.
He outlasted top names like Jesper Svensson, Ryan Barnes, and Belmonte. Tackett’s final round against Belmonte ended in a 10-10 tie, but Tackett won the roll-off to claim his first Strike Derby title.
Innovation with String Pins
The event was also the first to be played with string pins on TV. QubicaAMF’s EDGE String pinspotters are now officially approved for PBA play and aim to bring more efficiency to the sport.
While the string pin system remains a topic of debate among bowlers, its use at such a major event signals that string technology is becoming part of professional bowling’s future.
