Singapore had erased Denmark’s two-game lead in the women’s team final at the 2026 IBF World Cup. With one game left to decide the title, Megan Dicay says the Danish team kept its attention on the things it could control.
Denmark won that fifth game 243–215 to claim gold with a 3–2 victory in Munich.
Speaking to BowlingLife after the final, Dicay explained how the team approached the decider.
“I think the key was focusing on what we could control. Our mindset was never really “us against Singapore” — it was “us against the lanes and the pins.””
“We stayed committed to the task, took it one shot at a time and kept reminding ourselves that a clean frame is always a good frame. We didn’t need to do anything extraordinary. We just needed to trust ourselves, trust each other and keep making good shots.”
Trust Behind the Smiles
Dicay shared the title with Karen Kærgaard Nielsen, Mika Guldbæk and Sofie Kærgaard Nielsen. Asked about the final, she also spoke about the relationship between the four players.
“We genuinely have so much fun together. We laugh, we enjoy the moment, and we bring out the best in each other. But behind all the smiles, there’s also a group of fierce competitors who know when it’s time to get down to business.”
Denmark had finished sixth in Group B before beating France, Sweden and defending champions, the United States, to reach the final. Against Singapore, the team had to respond once more after its 2–0 advantage became 2–2.
For Dicay, the way they won mattered as much as the result.
“I’m incredibly proud of these girls. Not just because we won gold, but because of the way we did it — together, with trust, commitment and a whole lot of personality.”
Over the past few days, the Danish federation had been sharing playful photos of the four teammates, from striking poses together to putting on dark sunglasses and looking like a team coached by Pete Weber.
Asked about the story behind the sunglasses, Dicay had a light-hearted answer.
“No deep story behind those. Just four girls bringing a little extra style to the World Cup. Apparently, it worked pretty well!”
