Danielle McEwan and Anthony Simonsen defended their titles at the PBA/PWBA Striking Against Breast Cancer (SABC) Mixed Doubles Tournament at Copperfield Bowl in Houston.
This year, McEwan and Simonsen led the finals, winning nine out of twelve matches and finishing first by over 230 pins. In contrast to last year’s dramatic comeback from 30th place, they entered the semifinals in ninth place and maintained their lead comfortably.
“We were in a better spot going into Sunday,” Simonsen noted, highlighting their improved performance this year. Simonsen averaged over 219 in the finals, while McEwan averaged over 210.
The decisive moment came in Game 10, where they extended their lead by defeating England's Dominic Barrett and Latvia's Diana Zavjalova, securing a comfortable victory.
This win is McEwan’s ninth PWBA Tour title and third SABC Mixed Doubles victory in four years. For Simonsen, it’s his third PBA title of the season and 16th PBA Tour title overall.
The PBA and PWBA tours continue on July 31 with the Jonesboro Trios in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a unique event featuring the PBA50.
