Singapore’s Darren Ong made a stunning start at the PBA Viper Championship, rolling not one but two perfect games in the first qualifying round.
After his first three games, Ong scored 300, 224, and 300, totaling 1,489 pins over six games on the 38-foot Viper oil pattern. Averaging over 248, he secured the top spot among 201 participants after Round 1 of qualifying.
David Krol (1,484), EJ Tackett (1,436), Tom Daugherty (1,435), and Alec Keplinger (1,427) follow closely behind in the top five.
One of two PWBA players in WSOB XVI, Verity Crawley, maintained an impressive average of over 230 through the first six games and sits in 12th place with a total pinfall of 1,382.
Nick Borgaro currently holds the final advancing spot in 24th place with 1,363 pins. Full PBA Viper Championship standings can be found here.
The second round of qualifying continues Friday, with the top 24 advancing to match play. The Round of 24 begins at 7 p.m. PT (10 p.m. ET), followed by the Rounds of 16 and 8 on Monday, March 17.
Tim Foy Jr. remains on top after 18 games, leading the PBA World Championship following his strong performance in Scorpion Championship qualifying.
