Senior bowling returns to Normandy on Wednesday as BowlingGP Legends 2026 opens at Bowling Plaza Grand-Quevilly, near Rouen.
Running from September 30 to October 4, the International Senior Bowling Tour event brings together bowlers aged 50 and over for five days of competition and a €32,500 prize fund.
More than 160 players from 16 countries have registered. Ten qualifying squads will run through Saturday before Sunday's finals decide the men's and women's champions, with €2,000 awaiting each winner.
A Bigger Prize Fund
Last year's tournament, held under the BowlingGP France Senior name, attracted 155 bowlers and offered €29,000 in prizes. Germany's Peter Knopp and Belgium's Véronique Perniaux claimed the titles.
This year's prize fund is €3,500 higher, while the international entry list has already passed last year's player total.
How BowlingGP Legends Qualifying Works
Each entry consists of six games, but the overall qualifying standings use a player's two highest six-game series combined. That makes it a 12-game qualifying total, rather than a competition decided by one strong block.
An age bonus adds one pin per game for each year over 50: a 51-year-old receives one pin per game, a 52-year-old two, and so on.
A total of 42 men and 14 women qualify for Sunday. Finishing near the top brings a shorter route through the finals: the leading two in each division advance directly to the semifinals. Men ranked third to 18th and women ranked third to eighth enter at the quarterfinal stage, while men placed 19th to 30th begin in the eighth finals.
Further places are available through the Early Birds, Scratch and Turbo classifications. Saturday's one-game Desperado offers a final opportunity, with two men and one woman advancing. Entry to that shoot-out costs €25.
Three-Game Title Decider
The finals on October 4 use round-robin match-play pools before the last four bowlers in each division reach the Final4.
The men's eighth finals begin at 09:00, followed by the quarterfinal stages. The semifinals are scheduled for 14:30.
From 16:00, the Final4 changes the format. Four bowlers play one game, with the lowest scorer eliminated. The remaining three play again, leaving two bowlers to contest the title over one final game. Each game starts from scratch.
The awards ceremony is scheduled for 17:00. All times are local to France.
Equal Top Prizes for Men and Women
The men's and women's Final4 offer identical payouts: €2,000 for first place, €1,500 for second, €1,250 for third and €1,000 for fourth.
Other payouts include €500 for the remaining semifinalists, €300 for quarterfinal finishers and €250 for men's eighth-final finishers. The overall prize fund also includes local-player categories, Turbo Challenge prizes and a guaranteed €625 pot for the 300-game competition.
