The 2025 USBC Masters is underway at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan, with 390 players competing in one of the most prestigious tournaments of the season. After the first round of qualifying, Sean Lavery-Spahr leads the field with a five-game total of 1196, averaging 239.2.
Lavery-Spahr, who finished inside the top 15 in both 2023 and 2024, posted scores of 246, 263, 263, 179, and 245 on Monday during B Squad’s opening round. Brad Miller is close behind in second place with 1183, followed by Michael Schlabach (1182), Bill O’Neill (1173), and Tom Smallwood (1173) to round out the top five.
Sweden’s Rasmus Edvall, winner of the 2024 PBA Scorpion Championship, rolled the only 300 game of the day and is tied with Tyler Cortez Schenck for 28th place with 1095 total.
DeeRonn Booker, reigning USBC Masters champion, is currently tied for 151st place with a total of 991 after the first round, but as the defending champion, Booker is automatically placed in the match play bracket. If he does not qualify among the top 64, he will receive the final seed.
EJ Tackett, who is aiming to add the Masters title to his collection to complete his career Grand Slam, is currently in 27th place, after scoring 1096 in C squad. Tackett is also in contention to break several records, including single-season earnings and most major titles won in a season (current record belongs to Jason Belmonte, who won 3 majors in 2017 season).
The competition begins with three days of qualifying. Bowlers will compete in five-game blocks across three squads, with the top 63 and last year's champion advancing to match play. The double-elimination format will determine the final eight players, who will compete in a two-part televised final over the weekend.
All qualifying and match play rounds will be streamed live on BowlTV. The championship rounds will air on FS1 and FOX.
