After yesterday's battle for the Men's Singles gold, the competition at the European Senior Bowling Championships 2025 shifted focus to the Women's Singles event today.
Germany's Michaela Göbel-Janka secured the host nation's first gold medal by defeating Sweden's Linda Haglund 190-179 in the final match.
In the semifinals, Michaela Göbel-Janka overcame her compatriot, Antje Materne, with a 205-166 victory. Notably, Materne had earlier broken the European Senior Championships record by scoring 278 pins in a single game during qualification. In the other semifinal, Sweden's Linda Haglund narrowly defeated Spain's Ingrid Juliá by a single pin, 190-189.
Haglund's silver medal is Sweden's second medal of the tournament, following Peter Hellström's Men's Singles gold yesterday. Meanwhile, Germany's medal tally now stands at two bronze, one silver, and one gold.
The European Senior Bowling Championships 2025 is being held in Leipzig, Germany, from January 24 to February 2, 2025. The championship features four competition categories: Singles, Doubles, Teams, and Masters.
A total of 98 female athletes and 108 male athletes are expected to compete in the event.
