Finland's Joonas Jähi has surged to the top of the leaderboard at the 55th Brunswick Ballmaster Open in the best possible fashion.
In the opening game of Squad 8, Jähi threw 12 strikes to start the game on a perfect note. It would have been the first 300 game of the event, if European bowling legend Mika Koivuniemi hadn’t already achieved that feat moments earlier.
Frankly, Koivuniemi didn’t stop striking until the seventh frame of game two, when a 10-pin was left standing. Even after that, Koivuniemi finished the game with five consecutive strikes, ending with a 279. In the third game, Mika bowled a 197, and that’s when Jähi took the lead. Being more consistent, Jähi maintained his position throughout the final three games and secured the top spot after eight squads with an outstanding score of 1540 (300, 247, 223, 258, 259, and 253).
On Tuesday, two more squads are scheduled, starting at 2 PM. Fans can catch all the action via live streams and stay updated through regular posts on BowlingLife, the tournament's official media partner, across their website and social media platforms.
